Greetings, Idaho Charter School Board Members!

By now, you've probably received our invitation to attend the March 2006 Charter School Board Retreats scheduled throughout the state. I'd like to take a moment to personally invite each of you to one of our three retreats and to share our agenda topics and to encourage you to REGISTER SOON!

As you know, effective governing boards are very important to the success of a charter school. The Idaho Charter School Network is dedicated to promoting and ensuring the success of Idaho charter schools by providing technical assistance to the movement. The goal of these board retreats is two fold:

1) to enhance the skills of charter governing board members; and
2) to equip authorizers with the skills they need to make decisions about charter petitions, provide oversight without over regulation, and to use charter schools as a means of offering choice within the district.

Sessions for governing board members include:
-Building the foundation for an effective governing board
-Identification and recruitment of board members
-Board decision making and effective meetings
-Legal and financial responsibilities of charter boards
-Building strong parent and community relations
and more!

I hope that you will consider attending one of the three regional retreats. Retreats will be held in Boise, Sandpoint, and Pocatello. You may choose the one that's most convenient for you. Please visit the link below to learn more. You'll notice from the information on the website, that in addition to sessions specifically designed for charter school board members, there are also sessions specifically for charter authorizers. If you have not already called your authorizer to invite them to the retreats, I'd encourage you to do so. We'd like to have charter schools attend with their authorizers, especially on day one, since this will be a joint session with charter school board members and authorizers.

I appreciate all of the work you do each day for your charter school. I look forward to working with you at these retreats.
If you have questions, please don't hesitate to call me. I hope to see each of you in March. To learn more, and to register, please visit:

Kerri
