HB 625 TO BE HEARD MONDAY (3/13)
Legislation impacts Idaho's virtual public charter schools

March 11, 2006

TO:  Coalition Members and Charter School Supporters

FROM:  Bridget Barrus, Executive Director

SUBJECT:  HB 625

House Bill 625 will be heard on Monday, 3/13, in the House Education Committee.

This legislation calls for the State Board of Education to adopt rules requiring Idahos public virtual charter schools to verify residency of its students two times per year.  The Coalition of Idaho Charter School Families is NOT supporting this legislation and we urge you to help us defeat this unnecessary legislation.   Here are some things you can do to help:

  1. Contact members of the House Education Committee, and urge them to vote no on the legislation.  You can e-mail the members by clicking on this link: http://www.legislature.idaho.gov/about/contactbycommittee.cfm and then clicking on House Education.

  1. Contact your own legislators and tell them to not support HB 625.  If you do not know who your legislators are, please e-mail us at info@idchartercoalition.org and we would be happy to provide that information for you.

  1. Attend the committee meeting on Monday.  It is vitally important for charter school supporters to attend hearings that affect their schools.  By attending the meeting you are sending a strong message to the Legislature that you are actively engaged and right now, we need you!  The committee meeting begins at 8am in the Capitol, Room 406.

We appreciate your continued support of Idahos public charter schools and the thousands of students who attend them.  With the session winding down, we need your support now more than ever!  Please check the Coalitions Legislation page for more information about the legislation that we are currently watching and where it is in the process.  Again, thank you and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
