Idaho Public Charter School Day at the Legislature Thursday, February 15, 2007
Governor Otter to sign Charter School proclamation at 9:00 AM.
Thursday, February 15 has been reserved as Charter School Day at the state Capitol. The day-long event, organized by the Idaho Charter School Network, will include displays by more than twenty charter schools from throughout the state, and gives legislators the opportunity to learn more about Idaho’s public charter schools.
Legislative tours of Compass Public Charter School, and Meridian Medical Arts Charter School have been arranged, and vocal performances by Idaho Arts charter school and Idaho Distance Education Academy students will occur during the noon hour.
Governor “Butch” Otter will sign a proclamation declaring February 15 as Charter School Day in Idaho at 9:00 a.m. in his office. The public is welcome to attend this ceremony, after which you can view the school displays in the fourth floor rotunda and visit with your legislators.
The charter school concept has made great progress with policy makers since the first Charter School law was passed in 1998. The continuing success and growth of this innovative approach to public education is becoming recognized by legislators as a viable, credible method of public education. But few legislators have visited a charter school. We encourage you to invite your local legislator to visit your school. You can send an e-mail to your legislator through idleginfo@lso.idaho.gov Be sure to include your name, address and a phone number.
We look forward to seeing you on February 15! If you’d like more information about how to contact your legislator please call Ken at 208-385-7070.
